Located in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia, this +/-160 year old, one room School House has been lovingly restored and turned into a cozy and comfortable little year round home by John Duckworth and Anne Fouillard, who are full time residents of Kingsburg. It is located in the centre of an 18th century Swiss German settlement and is surrounded by +/- 200 year old classic Cape Cod style houses, all constructed with handhewn beams. Adjacent to the School House is a small, quaint, centuries-old settlers cemetery. It is 300 feet through the beach grass to a beautiful, half-mile long beach, on which you rarely see more than half a dozen people, even in the middle of the summer.

The Schoolhouse used to have three roles in the village-school, meeting hall and church, when there was an itinerant preacher about. From your queen sized bed in the loft you can watch the sun and moon rise out of the ocean to the accompaniment of the surf. After a full day of fresh, salty sea air, it seems impossible to stay awake once you lay down in bed. The only noise you will hear is the surf and the birds, of which there are about 50 species. Well, you might also hear the sizzle of local shellfish on the Old School House barbeque! |
In addition to the ocean in the backyard, there is a +/-100 acre lake in the front yard which is good for canoeing and kayaking. You will not feel like a tourist in a tourist development here, you will feel that you are experiencing life from another time, in an authentic environment. Guests should bring their own beach towels and plastic mattress covers, if necessary. Fax, wireless internet and telephone in office. 50% deposit on booking. Balance 30 days before arrival. Check-in time 4:00pm. Check out time 10:00 am, unless mutually agreed. No smoking in the house please. |
